Background

Michael Gonzales is the Vice President of Growth and Government Programs for Umoja Food For Health. Michael is focused on developing innovative solutions and go to market strategies, connecting providers, health plans and food banks with a full suite of customizable food as medicine and nutrition solutions. 

Michael brings more than 20 years of health care experience to the Umoja team building upon his past success with multiple Fortune 20 companies, most recently UnitedHealthcare. His expertise includes a combination of sales, account management, contracting, strategy, and both personal and team development. Michael also proudly served 8 years active duty in the U.S. Navy as a Navy Corpsman / Medic, which was the starting point for his career in and passion for better health for all.  

Based in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Michael lives with his amazing wife, Amy, a Physician Assistant in Neurology, and their black lab rescue, Minnie. He enjoys spending time with his funny, bright daughter, Jenna, at the lake, cooking, and watching a ton of baseball – GO DODGERS!
